Often, it is very crucial for Managers to identify the technical skills of prospective and existing employees. This process is equally important to the individual as well. By obtaining that information the following objectives can be met:

  • Identification of skills present in an individual applying for a job
  • Identification of skills for an existing employee so that training needs can be identified
  • Identification of skills will allow for performance rewards
  • Identification of skills that are subpar will allow an individual to enroll in training that will make them more versatile in the workforce
  • Identification of those skills will minimize bias and unfair treatment in relationship with raises and job titles.

To obtain the objectives above we have developed cognitive and psychomotor (hands-on) instruments to aid in this effort.

  • Often a basic cognitive (written) evaluation can be used in interviews and screening processes. While this evaluation is not an aptitude test, it will identify what basic skills are found in individuals pursuing entry level technical positions. These tools can be applied using regular hardcopy test or by on-line applications.
  • When a company is trying to identify the training that is needed by their workforce a comprehensive evaluation can be used to identify those skill gaps. These evaluations are composed of usually two (2) phases.
    • The first phase would be to implement the cognitive (written) evaluation first, because of its accessibility to evaluate the several at a time, and second, because of cost. This phase usually identifies individuals with lower skill sets so that additional testing would not be needed.

    • The second phase would be to evaluate the individual using a psychomotor (hands-on) instrument. This evaluation removes all doubt of an individual’s particular skill sets. This tool allows the test proctor to correctly identify the skills and individual can perform to industry specifications.

  • While we strongly recommend developing your test from a formal Job Task Analysis, these evaluations can be implemented if proctored by subject matter experts. To inquire on Validating your tests please click here
