We have developed several Instructor Guidebooks in key technical areas.  The objectives of these guidebooks are as follows:

  • Define the objectives of a course in terms of performance.
  • Improve the consistency of the delivery of training courses, regardless of the instructor facilitating the course.
  • Provide a roadmap for instructors, making courses easier to organize and minimize the time needed for preparation.
  • Ensure that the students who successfully complete the course are able to perform according to the predetermined objectives.

To meet the above objectives, each Instructor Guidebook includes the following critical components:

  • Student Profile Sheets:  these instruments are the centerpiece of any course and provide the description of the behavior and/or competent performance that is required of a student or employee to become certified that they have completed the course.  The profile sheet is used as a report card and is a great way to track a student’s progress through the entire class.  Click here to see a sample profile sheet.
  • Lesson Plans:  these instruments serve as a snapshot of a specific lesson in each course and include lesson objectives, resources needed, etc.  By providing a topical outline of the topics to be covered in each module of a course, lesson plans serve as a roadmap for instructors.  Click here to see a sample lesson plan.
  • Hands-on Exercises:  provide the instructor with descriptions of activities that will help to illustrate theoretical concepts or provide the students with practice on the critical skills that must be learned.  Hands-on exercises include all of the information needed for instructors to quickly set up and lead group and individual exercises.  Click here to see a sample hands-on exercise.
  • Lesson Evaluations:  evaluations provide the test that a student must pass to confirm that he or she is able to perform according to the objectives.  Depending on the lesson objectives, evaluations may include written conceptual questions or hands-on (psychomotor) testing.  Answers are provided along with each evaluation.  Click here to see a sample lesson evaluation.
  • Equivalency Examinations:  these evaluations serve two purposes:  1) Provide an assessment in order for potential students to test out by certifying that they can perform according to the course objectives, and 2) Provide a comprehensive examination to be administered at the end of a course.  Click here to see a sample equivalency examination.
